1.引言
中国目前名气比较大的“科技大学”有中国科技大学、国防科技大学、华中科技大学、电子科技大学、西北农林科技大学、西安电子科技大学、北京科技大学和南方科技大学等等 。这些大学名中的”技术” 都翻译为technology,如中国科学技术大学的英文是University of Science and Technology of China,而北京科技大学则为University of Science and Technology Beijing 。

网络上technology的出现频度比technique高 ， 如在必应中搜索这两个词，前者大约有219 000 000，而后者则大约有 142 000 000 。但若与特定的词搭配 ， 也可能倒过来，比如"house painting technology"搜索到了18 800条，而"house painting technique"则多达175 000条，"house painting techniques"更高达508 000条 。
2. 二者差异
很显然technology的后面是-ology,这个构词元素想必大家都也熟悉，它可表示"a speaking, discourse, treatise, doctrine, theory, science" ,可以溯源到希腊语的-logia 。所以，对technology的更到位翻译是“技术学” 。因为大学是求高大上“学问”的，故而科技大学校名中的技术是technology,而不是technique 。

Technique主要有四个义项：1. the manner and ability with which an artist, writer, athlete, etc., employs the technical skills of a particular art or field of endeavor(艺术家、作家、运动员等利用特定艺术或领域的技巧之方式与能力) 。2. the body of specialized procedures and methods used in any specific field, esp. in an area of applied science(在任何特定领域使用的专门程序和方法的主体 ， 尤其是在应用科学领域) 。3. any method used to accomplish something(用于完成任务的任何方法).4. technical skill; degree to which one is able to apply procedures or methods(技巧;应用某过程或某方法的驾驭程度) 。
从上述四个义项来看，technique含义总体是偏“艺”，不管是工艺还是农艺 ， 而technology则是要将这些“艺术”上升成学问 。对“学问”深入学习之后，让“艺术”变成规范, 从而任何人经过系统培训都能重复的“技术”，所以technology当作技术来使用时强调“学问”和“技术” 。
前面的"house painting techniques"属于带有操作者个性色彩和个人经历的操作过程，所以倾向用techniques(而不是technology) 。
Information technology, computer technology, communication technology，medical technology等等之类技术则侧重“任何人经过系统培训的人都能重复” 。
Technic是Technique的另一种写法 。
当technique和technology表示具体方法时，它们都是可数的 。
3. 相关词汇
前面谈及Technic也可以当成形容词使用 。若作为形容词 ， 它与technical的意思相同 。但是因为technic还可以当成名词来用，这就要让读者去琢磨究竟是名词还是形容词，所以如果要用形容词，最好就用technical,以避免读者的琢磨 。
Technological是另外一个形容词,它自然是从technology来的 。因为technology是“学问”，所以Technological强调科学 。有两个义项：
1)Relating to or involving technology, especially scientific technology;
2) Affected by or resulting from scientific and industrial progress.
Technician与technologist也有差异 。蓝翔技校的英文是Shandong Lan Xiang Technician College(中文全称“山东蓝翔技师学院”) ， 所以Technician是”技师”(或技士)的意思，其实就是”技术员”的意思 。
Technologist是“技术专家”或“技术家”，这是因为-logist是“学问家”之意 。
